OpeningsPhD positions at the Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire Headquarters - Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de LausanneStarting February 2009, a few PhD positions will become available at the European Center for Atomic and Molecular Calculations (CECAM) headquarters at EPFL in Lausanne for students to perform research in a domain of computational sciences. Main topics will be computational material science for alternative energies, methodologies for structure-based drug design, multi-scale simulations. Close collaboration with other academic institutions and industrial research groups in Europe is envisaged.
Applications must be sent to Professor Wanda Andreoni
( E-mail: wanda.andreoni Full-time Professor of Molecular SimulationUniversity of Amsterdam Molecular Simulation is one of the key areas of research at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). At present, the UvA Molecular-Simulation group has 5 senior staff members. It plays a key role in the Amsterdam Centre for Multiscale Modelling (ACMM). Research in multi-scale modelling is one of the UvA's strategic priorities. The new Chair of Molecular Simulation will lead the Computational Chemistry group within the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences. The appointee is expected to be a prominent scientist whose presence will strengthen the ACCM. Collaboration is strongly encouraged with UvA groups in experimental physics and in the life sciences, and with the FOM Institute AMOLF - in particular in the area of Systems Biology. International collaboration with a European consortium of institutions working in related areas of research and European education will be organized through the CECAM network.

UCD College of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences Description: Director of Atlantic Centre for Atomistic Modelling, a potential Node of CECAM Advertisement: UCD College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences seeks a Director for its new Atlantic Centre for Atomistic Modelling (ACAM), a potential Node of CECAM; a new Irish Centre for computational simulations based on statistical mechanics (Ab initio and classical molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, electronic structure, mesoscale methods). Closely linked to the UCD Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory (CASL) and Nanoscale simulators in Ireland (NSI) it will act as a national focal point for particle based simulations and research and a centre for collaboration with North America and within Europe. ACAM will have close collaboration with CECAM (European Centre for Atomic and Molecular Simulation). The Director will be a senior scientist at the level of University Professor. He/she should have an excellent scientific reputation in one of the computational sciences with a background in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering or biology. A background in nanobio science or research related to medicine or medical technology would be an advantage (but not a prerequisite) , as would a willingness to engage with the very successful medical research community industry in Ireland. The Director should have the ambition and the ability to grow the centre into the Atlantic nexus of simulation and running a strong personal research group. To this end, he/she will be expected to apply for a Science Foundation Ireland Principal Investigator research grant - awards range from €100,000 to €1,000,000 per annum, and would be in addition to the salary range stated below. (see http://www.sfi.ie) The Director will be appointed to establish and lead this Centre for a period of three years, renewable. The College of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences will seek approval from the relevant committee(s) to appoint a permanent Professor at UCD Salary Scale: €114,069 - €146,776 Appointment on the scale will be made commensurate with qualifications and experience. Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained :
